Calorimeters This is a investigation into how heat transfer is effected when different variables are changed, when boiling water is in a colorimeter. Variables These are the variables which are available for me to change: 1. Different insulators e.g. Foam or Cotton Wool, Polystyrene. 2. The temperature of the water at the start of the experiment. 3. Whether or not the calorimeter has a lid on or not. 4. Different conductors e.g. Copper, Wood, other metals. 5. The amount/Volume of water. Prediction These are my predictions for each variable: 1. Different insulators work better than others. Different insulators will have different effects, because of what they are made of, if the material is a metal, it will conduct the heat, a non-metal will insulate the heat, some better then others. 2. If the starting temperature is higher, then I predict it will be higher at the end too, because the energy lasts longer in the hotter water. 3. If the lid isn't on more heat will be lost, because the heat will rise. 4. Different conductors have different effects too. Some conductors conduct the heat quicker than others. e.g. Copper will transfer the heat quicker than wood. 5. If there is less water there would be a smaller surface area to volume ratio so less water will transfer less heat, and more will enhance the transfer Planning I will investigate different amounts of water and different insulators. I prefer Firebox for its speed in producing results. Both browsers allow me to choose the tools and options I use most often, as well as to select whether to remember and store browsing history. As I use the Internet frequently, to conduct research, It Is often necessary to go back and find a source that I used during a previous session or on a different day. Both browsers allow me to view the history, to find sites I visited recently. However, Internet Explorer offers a history side bar, which is more convenient for accessing browsing history.While this feature is handy, I do not necessarily care for, or need, the additional bells and whistles of Internet Explorer. The ability to customize the background screen, choosing from a variety of scenes, may be more important to the user who spends most of his or her time on the internet socializing or visiting social networking sites. While I do engage in social networking online, it is not my main activity. Therefore, features such as the customizable screen are of little Importance to me.Both Firebox and Internet Explorer allow me to conduct a search using Google. While It Is not the only search engine available, It can help me with research, by allowing me to find scholarly resources, without necessarily accessing a university library or database. Google scholar often provides extensive lists of resources in an efficient manner. Google Chrome is a fast browser, it brings up search results quickly and the results appear to be ranked in order of their applicability, to the content in the search request.When using Firebox, I can produce the same search results as with Google Chrome. Internet Explorer, on the other hand, often produces search results that are neither useful or on topic, in my opinion. I conducted a search on drug use in America using Google Chrome and Internet Explorer. Firebox produced identical results as Google Chrome. Internet Explorer, on the other hand, produced a group of listings that appear t o be advertising drug addiction treatments and centers, rather than producing the results of available and current research on drug use.Internet Explorer appears to be geared more toward advertising and the average casual user. While I may shop and read product reviews online, I do not need to be inundated with advertising, when conducting research away from Internet Explorer for the past several years. I am not against advertising on the internet. If I choose not to view pop up ads, I can adjust all browsers accordingly. Sometimes, accessing various features of online course require turning the pop up blocker off. This has not been a problem with Firebox.It is a problem with Internet Explorer, as I am always fearful that ads will mom up as soon as I navigate away from the course site. Internet Explorer often changes the search options, such as automatically making ask. Com or being my search engine of choice, without my permission. Firebox and Google Chrome do not. When this occurs with Internet Explorer, I become fearful of spare and mallard being loaded onto my computer. To me, this practice is dishonest and creates a lack of trust. Conclusion Overall, I prefer to have greater control over the advertising and search options of my browser.I do not find Internet Explorer to be as friendly, for conducting research and gathering useful, relevant information. This is the majority of time spent online for me. For those who are casual users or who use the internet solely for entertainment, Internet Explorer may not seem so bothersome. While Google Chrome is fast and gives me the results I want, it is often not compatible with academic sites or with online course applications. The provisional diagnosis is the temporary diagnosis that can be done with the best information available in that situation which further requires confirmation. The emergency care service would help to provide the care during Emmas transfer from home to hospital. The immediate life saving care provided by the first responder would give oxygen administration, automated external defibrillator providing care minimum emergency service, and stabilize her condition before ambulance arrive and assist her to the hospital . In differential diagnosis, appendicitis can be tricky for diagnosis until the typical symptoms are looked for. Aetiology The main cause of appendicitis is due to appendiceal lumen that results in obstruction mainly by lymphoid hyperplasia caused by some foreign body or worms. There is inflammation of appendix and this leads to multiplication of bacteria inside the organ and pus formation. The obstruction may lead to bacterial overgrowth, distension, ischemia and abdominal inflammation. There is blocking of appendix by stool or foreign body that causes acute or chronic pain. Concisely, there are two main causes of appendicitis: stomach infection that might have moved to appendix or a hard stool piece may be trapped in appendix and bacteria present in it may have infected the appendix (Bowen, 2015). Epidemiology Appendicitis is one of the most common acute abdominal emergency cases; however, the incidence is low in the population with 6.7% females and 8.6% males. The lifetime risk is 12% among males and 23% among females. This condition occurs in people aged early teens and late 40s. This shows male to female predominance and is a global disease. The prevalence is stabilized in most Western countries and suggests that the incidence is rising rapidly. Among these, Europe has the highest incidence and incidence in Australia is comparable to Western Europe. The annual mortality rate in Australia due to appendicitis has decreased by 42.7%, however, the incidence is escalating that is becoming a major global health issue and burden of disease (Bhangu et al., 2015). Assessment There are several tool to assess appendicitis in patients. As the patient is, complaining about the stable sever pain in her lower right abdomen and her abdomen is rigid, swollen and tender. Hence, ultrasonography will be used to diagnose the cause of paining. Ultrasonography is an easy and effective way for primary diagnosis of the pain and if the process provides negative result, CT scan can be used to diagnose further. Appendixdoes notappear generally in the ultrasonography procedure. However, after the appendix becomes swollen and start paining, the ultrasonography test provides a clear picture of 7 to 9 mm of swollen structure in the lower right quadrant of abdomen. Hence, it is an effective tool to diagnose appendix, if the patient is suffering from the disease (Kim et al., 2012). To detect the possibility of appendicitis, urinary 5-HIAA tests can be performed. The proportion of HIAA in bloodincreases with the onset of the disease and during the necrosis of the appendix becomes low in amount. Hence, from the urinary 5-HIAA test, the level of HIAA in Emmas body can be detected and a clearer picture of disease can be achieved(Kim et al., 2012). Treatment Early treatment of Emma should include drugs to manage her pain and to lower the health consequences due the symptoms. In the possibility of appendix, the patient should be administered to crystalloid therapy. Emma is showing the signs of dehydration and she is unable to take any fluid inside her body hence crystalloid therapy will be effective to deal with her signs of dehydration and septicemia (Lacher et al., 2012). Sheshould be provided with analgesics (parenteral and antiemetic) to comfort her abdominal pain. This will help to calm her condition and her blood pressure will improve (Lacher et al., 2012).
